One hobby that has sustained the test of time is that of
coin collection. Coins have been minted as far back as the
Roman Empire and maybe even before that. People have been
collecting coins from time immemorial, collecting, sorting,
organizing and auditing coins all over the world.

Coin collection is a lifelong educational hobby which
requires patience, diligence and discipline. It is
relatively easy to start off with; you can even begin with
the change in your pocket.

Coin collecting combines the thrill of hunting down unique
coins with the excitement of finding rarity. It's a hobby
that can be quite satisfactory and educational. Imagine
your excitement if you successful track down the rare 1937-
D Buffalo Head Nickel!

A lot can be gathered from a coin about the culture and
history of the time to which the coin belongs to. For
example usually in history heroes and historic moments were
imprinted on the coins. This practice still continues in
some degree. Many characters and events from United States
of America rich and colorful past have been made immortal
through their representation on the minted currency.

There are many famous American coins such as the Susan B.
Anthony dollar, which commemorates the work of the late,
great heroine in the effort to ensure Women's Suffrage in
the United States. There is also the John F. Kennedy half
dollar, which honors America's "Most Beloved President".

The Internet has been an amazing boon to coin collectors
all over the world. They are able to find up-to-the-
minute information that relates to the rarity, value and
overall conditions of coins of all shapes and sizes. There
are sites, message boards and chat rooms devoted to coin
collecting enthusiasts. You can find tops on collecting as
well as suggestions for buying, selling and trading coins
and coin collections.

Coin collecting is fun for people of all ages and can be a
fun way for parents to bond and enjoy relaxation time with
their children. It is not uncommon for coin collections to
be passed on from generation to generation, increasing in
value and uniqueness with every passing year. The passing of
a collection from father to son, or grandmother to
grandchild, serves as a milestone in many families. This is
a rite of passage as American as apple pie.

If you find the idea of coin collecting interesting, the
Internet can be a great place to educate yourself. Merely
type in the phrase "collecting coins" into your favorite
search engine and you will find hundreds of sites devoted
to this fascinating hobby. You can peruse these sites and
do research as you'd like, whenever you have a little time
available.

When you are ready to get your feet wet and actually start
collecting there is no better place to go than your local
bank. Many banks even offer supplies (such as coin
collecting books to store your coins in as well as guides)
to get you started. Next time you are in your bank take a
moment to ask a teller what your bank has to offer the coin
collecting enthusiast. You may be surprised just how popular
this age-old tradition still is today.
